Prague is the one of the most beautiful and most visited cities in Europe. Millions of people come every year to see this lovely charming city situated on the Vltava River. Prague was relatively unscathed by the WW2, and as a result much of the magnificent buildings, monuments, churches and architecture that spans across many periods are still largely intact, and as a result, the city found on UNESCO's list of world heritage sites.
Walking through the city you find yourself winding your way through a medieval maze of stunning churches, cobble stone streets, bridges and courtyards, all dispersed with an array of pubs, restaurants, cocktail bars and cafes. It is easy to see why it is such a popular destination. Prague is the old and the new. It also is very modern and vibrant, full of energy, music and cultural art.
Overlooking the city is the Prague castle standing proudly on the skyline as it has for the past 1100 years. It is the largest ancient castle in the world, having several palaces, museums and royal gardens. The highlight of my visit was the magnificent St Vitus Cathedral, which was free to enter, and an absolutely incredible experience.
Some of the other sights I visited during my stay here included the popular Charles bridge, built in the 14th century, the Jewish ghetto area, and Jewish cemetery (which is the oldest in Europe), St Nicholas church and the historic old town square. I also went to the viewing tower located on the adjacent hill, which has somewhat of a resemblance to the Eiffel tower in Paris, though much smaller. There was a lot of stairs to climb but well worth the effort as I was rewarded with a magnificent view of the whole city.
